Biomarkers and Susceptibility Unit (UBS)

The UBS is a research unit dedicated to the identification and characterization of molecular biomarkers in cancer to improve prevention, diagnosis, prognosis and response to treatments, as well as the optimization of population screening programs. The activity is mainly focused on colorectal cancer, with active projects also in pancreatic and breast cancer.

The UBS coordinates and participates in epidemiological studies with direct involvement of patients and participants, managing biological samples and associated data, a key work for the Unit's translational research. The approach is highly multidisciplinary and integrates epidemiological, clinical, dietary and environmental exposure data, together with multiomic data (genomic, epigenomic, transcriptomic, metabolomic and metagenomic, among others), with the aim of comprehensively understanding the mechanisms involved in carcinogenesis.

The coordinator is Dr. Mireia Obón Santacana.
